Our Product is better than sliced bread... Your Product is POISON!!! XXXXXX

Its been YEARS since I've posted to this blog, but I've had this idea floating around in my head for a little while and figured this was a great time to get back to it.  I've been on a new health & diet kick recently and have been experiencing the sentiment in the title a LOT recently.  Let me explain my distress.....

The most recent experience with the subject matter was at a recent home-party for a company which will remain nameless.  The company has been in business for many years and more recently has delved into the health & supplements market.  Their "healthy" product line includes everything from protein shakes to sleep aids to an expanding fiber drink that fills you up to suppress your appetite.  All I can picture is seagulls exploding from eating Alka-Seltzer tablets....

Anyway, The presentation was made about how good the products are...so much better than everyone else's products...their competitors have even tried to acquire these products because they are so awesome, only to be shut out from these proprietary blends (fancy schmancy).  Even Beachbody's Shakeology was mentioned and when asked more details about it (b/c I'm a beach body coach and my husband swears by Shakeology) I was told that it was a terrible product with pesticides in it and everything..gasp!!!  I was told to just look at the ingredients and I'd see the pesticides..hmm, I've never looked at an ingredient label and seen pesticides listed..what the heck was she talking about? The rep also mentioned though, that she doesn't spend a lot of time researching other companies products...hmmm  So, you're a rep from this company w/ no training in nutrition or medicine, yet you can say that your product is the bees knees and every other product out there will drive you to an early grave in no time flat?  We also got into a discussion regarding antibiotics in milk and I can tell you this person was just reading from cue cards and didn't seem to even want to listen to anything other than what she thought was right (I grew up on a dairy farm lady, I know a couple things).

I recently attended a couple seminars with a licensed nutritionist and let me just say, I'd rather take my recommendations from someone like this and buy products and supplements from them than someone who's just an independent MLM rep.  And anyway, who is this person to poo poo any Beachbody products or supplements.  I'm no scientist, but some of the most fit people in the country/world use and swear by these products...I'd rather trust them and their results than a middle-aged pudgy MLM rep...what does she know about exercise and nutrition?  I'm not saying her product isn't any good, I'm just saying I'm not going to trust her just because she says it is......  I'm especially not going to trust her because she said a product I know to be good was basically garbage.  Maybe its not a perfect product but no product is.

In addition to being a beach body coach, I'm also an independent rep for a very well known MLM company best known for cosmetics.  I will not rant about how all of their products are the best...because you know what?  They're not.  There are many products they produce where I buy a different brand.  I buy what I like and what works.  They do make some excellent products and I do stand behind those, recommend them and use them daily.

And this is were I'll begin to draw my conclusion.  It is exhausting to have to go research every product to verify what you hear.  I've noticed that we are constantly bombarded with "Our product is awesome" and "oh, that product, that product...has bad ingredients in it, will give you acne, won't be absorbed by your body etc, etc".  How's a girl to know what to believe?  Can't we just admit that there may be more than one company out there making a decent product that's beneficial and won't kill you?  Can't we just say..ok, if that works for you, then use it...or I've never researched that, I should look into it and can't say anything about it at this time.  The point is, maybe we can be a little nicer to each other regarding products no matter what they are.  Maybe we can all take some time to agree that our company isn't the only one that can make a decent product as well.
